Console tables and media benches are stylish, practical, and easily placed furniture pieces that work excellently for storage and decluttering, but can also serve as beautiful focal points. Here we provide tips on how to choose console tables and media benches for your home. At the bottom of the page, you will also find smart care advice.
Console Tables & Side Tables
Console tables are versatile and often easily placed due to their compact dimensions. They come in many different styles and can be used as, for example, side tables, end tables, or bookshelves. If you choose a console table with drawers, you also get some extra hidden storage. You can also complement it with matching cabinets or shelves.
Which console table suits you?
Do you prefer classic lines or do you like more modern design? Think about the atmosphere you want to create in the room. We have a wide selection of console tables in classic designs, but we also offer more modern models with exciting aesthetics. Some people choose to match the console table with the rest of the room’s decor, but you can also opt for a deliberate style clash for a bit more dynamism.
Here’s how you can decorate with console tables
In the living room: Place a console table behind the sofa to create an extra surface for a table lamp and other decorations. It’s a smart way to make the seating area more cozy and personal. You can also use the console table as a side table between other furniture pieces, as a slim bookshelf, or as a beautiful focal point along an otherwise empty wall. If the console table stands alone, consider combining it with a large mirror or artwork on the wall above.
In the kitchen or dining room: Console tables can also function as smaller serving tables. Place snacks, food, or even a drink buffet on top of the console table. If you choose a version with shelves or drawers, you can store cutlery, napkins, glasses, and other essentials there, within easy reach.
In the bedroom: Combine the console table with a chair or stool, and it can work nicely as a small dressing table or even a compact workspace.
In the hallway: Space in the hallway is often limited, but a slim console table can provide a great surface for placing keys, mail, gloves, and other items. Opting for a model with storage compartments makes it even easier to keep the hallway organized!
Mediabenches
Media benches are stylish and smart solutions for organizing home electronics and other items that you don’t want to have out in the open but still want to easily access. Our media benches are designed to accommodate most TV models and also provide storage space for game consoles, media players, remote controls, and more.
Which style suits you?
Here you will find media benches in stylish, timeless designs and beautiful, exclusive materials. Which style suits you? Choose from bold, minimalist media benches in concrete, airy, elegant TV stands in limestone and metal, and more rustic media furniture in wood with a lovely patina.
Light-colored furniture creates an airy impression. At the same time, it can be impactful to choose a media bench in black or another dark shade, perhaps as a contrast against a light-colored wall. Neutral shades like lighter tones of gray and beige are always safe choices.
Match your TV bench with the rest of your decor for a calm, cohesive look, or break away with a media bench in a completely different style for a more exciting interior.
Open or concealed storage?
Some of our media benches feature open shelves, while others have concealed storage in drawers and behind cabinet doors. Concealed storage hides cables and blinking electronics, but also consider that some devices may require sufficient ventilation to prevent overheating.
Practical considerations when buying a media bench
- Choose the size of the media bench based on the room and other furniture, but also consider the dimensions of your TV (and its weight if it will be placed on the bench). With a media bench at the right height, the center of the TV should be roughly at eye level when seated.
- Ensure that the media bench has the necessary features you need, such as cable holes and shelves for media players, routers, and game consoles.
- Consider what you want to store in the media bench and opt for slightly more storage space rather than too little. This will make it easier to keep things organized!
Care instructions for different materials
In Artwood’s range, you can find console tables and media benches made of materials such as marble, bluestone, concrete, aluminum, and wood species like elm and oak. Here you will find general care instructions, but always inquire about the specific care guidelines for your furniture when making a purchase.
Console tables & media benches in wood
To clean wooden furniture, use a slightly damp cloth, possibly with a little soap in the water. For wood with an irregular surface, you can use a soft brush to vacuum it. Console tables and media benches in wood benefit from being regularly waxed with Spray Wax. The wax helps prevent liquids and dirt from penetrating the wood.
Console tables & media benches in concrete
To clean concrete furniture, wipe them with a lightly damp cloth, possibly with a little soap in the water. Never use abrasive materials or cleaning products that contain acid, bleach, or ammonia as they can damage the surface. Our concrete console tables and media benches are waxed as a base protection against stains. For continued protection, wax the concrete once during the first two months after purchase and then regularly 2-4 times per year. Spray Wax provides good protection and is easy to use.
Console tables & media benches in marble or bluestone
Limestone materials such as marble and bluestone are porous, and if they absorb liquids, they can get permanent stains. Therefore, it is recommended to use coasters for vases, candle holders, cups, and glasses, and always wipe up any spills immediately. When cleaning, you can wipe the surface with a lightly damp cloth, preferably with a little soap in the water. Never use abrasive materials or cleaning products that contain acid, bleach, or ammonia on marble and bluestone as it can damage the stone surface.
Console tables & media benches in aluminum
Our aluminum furniture often has a thin layer of paint on top of the metal for protection, but the surface is still sensitive to spills. Therefore, it is recommended to use coasters for vases, glasses, and cups, and wipe up any spills immediately. Aluminum is also sensitive to heat, so be sure to use coasters or trivets under candle holders and other hot objects. Clean console tables and media benches made of aluminum with a lightly damp cloth, and avoid using strong cleaning agents.
